Just a quick campaign update for everyone. I have replaced the long google site address for the campaign website with the simpler www.fischerforzion.com . If you bookmarked the google site already, it should still work fine, but if you want to share the site with others this new link should make it much easier to do so.
As mentioned in the previous post, in the next few weeks I will be canvassing voting precincts in Zion, reaching out to voters and looking for support throughout the community. Right now, I am planning the first "Zion Walk n' Talk" to take place on Saturday, February 9th. If you can spare a couple of hours to knock on a few doors, and let your neighbors know about the importance of this election and our campaign, then please join me. Details coming soon!
As of today, this blog has logged 1,173 page views! So, I know you are out there reading these posts but, I could really use your feedback either through the comments here, or via email at fischerforzion@gmail.com
I look forward to hearing from you.
Hello, I wish you were running for mayor! Im a Zion resident that makes less than $8,000 but my taxes are almost $12,000. what are you going to do with lowering taxes? Will you ask the Zion Cancer Hospital to pay their full taxes, they have gotten away with paying below their responsibility. Also, please list your email, I cannot email you via your link. Thank you, I hope you get in ;) Holly
ReplyDeleteHolly, Thank you for letting me know about the email link, it should be fixed now. As to your question about taxes and the Cancer Treatment Center in particular; first, in order to lift some of the property tax burden off of homeowners, the city needs to make sure that services are provided in an efficient manner, and second, develop alternate revenue sources through new business and economic development. I don't know if Cancer Treatment Center is receiving favorable tax breaks from the city, or if they are receiving special considerations in return for long-term investments that will provide greater revenue in the future, it is something that needs to be looked at. And this ties into my point about economic development, the CTC has so much influence because it is the biggest employer in the city, and currently there isn't enough economic diversity in the city to really counterbalance them. The same situation occured with the Nuclear Power Plant; the city became dependent on the revenue, and failed to aggresively pursue other development when it should have. In the end, all of these issues are interconnected, and there isn't a single way to solve all of them, but we can start by changing the way that we think about them. If you haven't read my platform at fischerforzion.com , I encourage you to take a look and let me know what you think. Finally, you can do more than just hope I get in, you can help make it happen; by telling everyone you know about my campaign, coming with me to knock on a couple of doors in your neighborhood, and most important of all, by voting for me on April 9th. I hope to hear from you soon!
